What is heck is SEERSUCKER?
When seersucker made its way to America, it became the workingman's fabric as a substitute for more unattainable luxuries like, say, air conditioning.
In fact, Gregory Peck wore a seersucker suit as Atticus Fitch in "To Kill a Mockingbird."
Rooting back to colonial India, the term is a combination of two Persian words: shir o shekar, or "milk and sugar," a reference to the alternating patterning of the fabric.
Half smooth like milk, half coarse like sugar, the puckered texture allows for air to pass through, preventing that uncomfortable summer stickiness.
This summer, embrace your inner gentleman by wearing some seersucker. We promise you'll be the coolest guy in the room... literally.

What is a SEERSUCKER ride?
This vintage event of the summer takes place on Saturday, July 20th with check-in beginning at 10am. The Festivities commence on the steps of the new La Conner Swinomish Library, located at 520 Morris Street.
It is a short 8-mile ride, coupled with a scavenger hunt. You can deduce from the name, the attire is seersucker. However, any other seasonally inspired clothing is more than welcome. If you are searching for a theme, then think "Great Gatsby" of the roaring 20’s.
At Christianson’s Nursery, you will be given a list of riddles which will lead you to clues that solve a much larger puzzle. We hope that will spark your inner Sherlock Holmes. The hunt is all about having a great time, celebrating the joys of summer, being with friends, and appreciating a bygone era.
What could be more fun than bicycles and a scavenger hunt? Nothing, really.
